What to Wear for Your Senior Portraits

Simple outfit tips that photograph well — colors, textures, layers, and what to bring along.

Your outfits set the tone for your photos. You do not need anything new or fancy — just a few pieces that feel like you and photograph well.

Start with what you love

Pick clothes you feel confident in. If you are comfortable, it shows in every frame.

Choose colors that work with the landscape

Warm neutrals, cream, denim, rust, olive, and deep jewel tones look great against Wyoming grass, sagebrush, and sunset skies. Very bright neon colors can reflect color onto your skin.

Texture beats busy patterns

  • Knits, waffle weaves, denim, leather, and flannel add depth.
  • Small logos are fine; large text and busy patterns can pull attention from your face.

Plan two or three looks

A casual outfit, a dressier option, and something that shows your interests — a jersey, a jacket, boots and a hat — gives your gallery variety.

Do not forget the details

  • Bring a lint roller and a brush.
  • Clean shoes matter in full-length shots.
  • Layers help when evenings in the foothills cool off fast.
